"Spaces for each Tab" is arguably more confusing, because it implies that space characters will be used. Something similar could be done for this, if it is deemed not important enough to make it totally dynamic. There are some settings which require a restart of N++ to take effect, and these have notes to that effect on the UI. We should inform users what is dynamic and what not. My comments based on behavior seen in version 7.9.5. Use value (insert 4 spaces) or Use value (insert tab char, size=4) perhaps the default value should always be shown, e.g. perhaps the text Use default value would be better as Use value, better reflecting the choice in the listbox.the setting scrolls out of view in the listbox most of the time, so user may be left thinking "what's meant by the default?".I don't think I totally agree that it is confusing, except: Maybe add a checkbox "Apply to all filetypes?" Such a dynamic change is indeed in need of reopening the file to see the change brought into effect for that file.Īlso note that if i enter the TAB-settings screen i see the old "4" setting (grayed out) but if i disable the "default checkbox" for Python it changes the value automatically to "2".įor the user this setting per file type is also confusing. Reopen the file and entered TABs are correct One press of the tab key inserts ONE tab character, thus ONE "arrow". Presume the meaning of this is this toolbar icon?:Ĭursor at the start of a line and press TAB => works (but i expected 4 arrows and thus tabs?) Press "pipe" icon (to show strange characters)
